New SMK
« on: January 10, 2015, 02:01:01 PM »
I,ve just been to my local market where a friend runs an airgun stall. He,s an agent for SMK. He just showed me a new air rifle from SMK. As yet un-named , Its a single shot co2 rifle. Nothing like the current qb78/79 models , with a conventional stock. Quite a nice looking little thing really. He has it to do an appraisal for SMK. If the price is right I can predict it flying off the shelves. It has a solid breechblock and a screw in gas cylinder, taking two capsules. Pity its co2. I understand it will be quite low powered so it will make a nice plinker. No doubt once on sale some enterprising person will find a way of squeezing more power from it.  ::)

a screw in gas cylinder, taking two capsules.

I'm not sure I understand that!!

Are you saying the rifle takes two 12g powerlets, but the cylinder/air-chamber they fit into is removable from the gun?

Yes my fault. What i meant was the cylinder is screwed into a solid block as opposed to being a one-piece tube. You have a removeable cap as normal but with another knob that you screw in to puncture the capsules.

So is it a QB78 but with a removable rather than fixed cylinder?

No mate, we,re getting a bit confused here. It,s not remotely like any other SMK,s . I,m trying to think of a comparison. It,s built in a similar way to say, an AA200 in that it has an alloy breechblock with a cylinder screwed into it. The capsules are inserted as per normal at the muzzle end. The cylinder is permanently fixed to the block. The capsules are dropped in then the cylinder cap is screwed on. This action does not puncture the capsules. Instead, there,s a separate screw on the cap that does that. I don,t know when it will be announced but apparently I,m only the fourth person to handle it. I reckon it will be a great little back garden plinker that should sell very well.

I was speaking to Lyn Lewington about it at the club last week, and again last night.

Although he hasn't seen one in the flesh yet, he told me that Nigel Allen had emailed him pics of it yesterday, and going on what he saw, said it looks quite good.....well, better than the XS78 anyway.
