SMK tune.
« on: January 08, 2021, 10:36:29 AM »
A pal of mine bought me an SMK 208 to work on a couple of days back. It was new and in .22 flavour. He wanted the barrel shortening also. These rifles are basically a copy of an Original 34 IIRC. And i,m here to tell you, they are bloody good rifles. I know , i own one. I just cleaned things out , they,re full of oil , made a new spring guide and top hat , shortned the barrel to 15 inches and slung it back together. On testing it came out at a very consistent 11.7 fpe with Superdomes and , wow , bloody accurate and really nice to shoot. Anyone looking for a good, cheap springer wouldn,t go far wrong with one of these. It,s the fifth i,ve worked on and every time i,ve been impressed with the performance .  And all for around 130 , plus a little fettling. And i,ve also found the .22 version much nicer to shoot than my .177.

Yup, you are spot-on with that Mel.

Lyn Lewington from the club has done a stack of those, and they always shoot really nicely.
