Fuel filter silencer
« on: January 03, 2021, 02:14:29 PM »
I thought i,d try one of the fuel filter jobbies that people are talking about . You can buy them from Ali-Express. They are actually unfinished silencers . I believe they are made that way to get around some law or other. All you have to do is drill holes through the end cap and internal cones. Cost ? Just over £8 , posted. I,ve taken out all the cones bar one and fitted two small hair curlers wrapped in snooker table baize , separated by the cone. The different combinations of baffles are endless. And it works quite well. Give it a try , it,ll only cost a few quid.

Some of those one piece baffles look a lot like the one fitted to my Zbroia ,and that,s darn quiet.

Yes........just looked and saw those labyrinth type ones......they remind me of the innards of the old carbon fibre Logun and Phoenix silencers.....plus one or two others whose names I can't recall right now. :-[  EDIT......the Theoben one which came on the Rapid MkII.

My shooting buddy and I used to experiment by modifying silencers, adding/removing felt/baffles/washers etc etc to try to improve on the sound suppressing qualities of off the shelf moderators, but we very rarely did, unless the design was a very basic one to start with. Good fun though!!

TBH, of all the silencer brands and types that I've ever owned (most of them!), I don't think anything beats the Weihrauch. I now have that brand on nearly all my PCP rifles.

The differences at the gun are very slight mind you.......and if you are more than 10 yards away from the muzzle any sound/volume difference is completely inaudible to the human ear.......whether critters can hear any difference though, who knows!!!

Will do. My mate has a sound meter so should be interesting to find out the results of his testing.

animals hear at different levels to us what we hear maybe/will be different to quarry etc.. a human can't hear dog whistle but our pooches respond..
what you need is the hertz to be below a certain range rather than the concentrating only on decibels ;)
so when doing the sound test for moderators they need to have hz, pitch tested

Species Approximate Range (Hz)
human    64-23,000
dog         67-45,000
cat          45-64,000
cow         23-35,000
horse       55-33,500
sheep      100-30,000
rabbit      360-42,000
rat          200-76,000

Rabbits hear pretty much in our range but also hear much higher pitched sounds which include rodents, bats, bugs, some bird noises and lots of mechanical or electrical sounds we can’t hear.

Good point there sme.

The moggie's hearing is impressive.......not mine though, she's as deaf as a post now.
