Irish Road Racer William Dunlop, older brother to Michael, son of the late Robert and nephew of the late Joey, has been killed this evening whilst practising for the Skerries 100 just north of Dublin. :(

Rest In Peace William.

Still shocked about this......

I can find very little info, except that he was on his third lap of an 'open' practice session, and crashed at the 'Sam's Tunnel' section of the circuit.

The situation gets sadder. :(

It accident is under investigation, but witnesses report Dunlop's R1 bottomed out in a depression in the high speed 'Sam's Tunnel' section, where the sump plug was ripped out from the engine. Oil then sprayed onto the rear tyre causing William to lose control. :-\ :-\

So, William lost his life through no fault of his own, just a freak situation which I don't think anyone could have foreseen or anticipated. :(

Is there enough travel on a bike's suspension to allow it to bottom out like that?

Or could the suspension have failed and led to it?
