R.I.P 'Fast' Eddie Clarke
« on: January 11, 2018, 07:46:04 PM »
Just heard that ex-Motorhead lead guitarist 'Fast' Eddie Clarke passed away in hospital last night, after suffering from pneumonia, aged 67. :(

IMHO, the line-up of Eddie, with Lemmy and 'Filthy' Phil Taylor was the best in Motorhead's history.....and I was lucky enough to see them play live several times.

Eddie's phenomenal guitar style was perfect for the band.........hard and fast but still melodic, without being too overdriven and saturated.

You're not wrong, those three were brilliant together.

One of the first gigs I went to was Motorhead at The Mayfair in Newcastle. It was dark, hot, drunken and LOUD.

I'll never forget how Lemmy stood at the front of the stage and lectured the crowd (mostly bikers/Hell's Angels) on their bad manners towards the support band. And then when the main men started to perform it was like they were trying to batter the crowd into submission with the volume and the energy of the performance.

Great band.
..........so I packed up and went to the pub.

Hehe.

I recall one of the first times I saw Motorhead I was standing about centre stage, three rows or so from the front. There was this kid next to me (about the same age as me) who was as accurate as hell with his spitting. Gremmo's were flying everywhere.....landing on guitars, amps etc, until one landed smack on Lemmy's chin. He instantly stopped playing, pointed at this kid, and said in his gravelly tones with snot still hanging in a stalactite like festoon from his chin ..........

"If you don't stop spitting at me.....(then clenching his fist) I'll give you something so you'll have no fcukin' teeth left to spit through".

I was crapping myself, and it wasn't even me his was pointing to! They then fired up and started playing again though nothing had happened, and they hadn't stopped!!

I also recall Lemmy had a bottle of Vodka secured to the side of one of the speaker cases in an optic. It was full when the gig started, and empty when it finished....he's downed the whole bottle to himself.

And yeah........it was LOUD....and my ears were ringing for days afterwards.
