Shooting rest, fillings?
« on: June 22, 2017, 06:43:47 PM »
Afternoon guys,

I have got a BSA shooting rest, the type you fill. Now I didn't want to fill it with sand, as I think it would be to heavy. I have used bean bag filling, the little polystyrene balls. But It's to light and not that solid.

So my question is, if any of you use these cushions, what do you use to fill yours?

Thanks

I use a combination of sand and poly balls/rice for bags with a large footprint , the sand gives the bag enough mass to follow the contours of the surface it's positioned on. The rice or poly let the forestock settle in to the bag giving a stable support.

If I'm using a springer benchwresting, I use a bag o f poly to support my leading arm/wrist on. This retains the closet poi to the proper zero I set from a seated position sat on my back doorstep.
I plink , therefore I am.

I hadn't thought of mixing the two!

I might have to go and get a bag of sandpit sand from hobby craft.

Sand seems to find its way out, split lentils are cheap and work well, some people like a light bag though,I bought a massive bag of poly balls for beans bags off eBay as we use it to full bean bag cushions too, lasted 2 years so far for 4

As already mentioned, rice, lentils.....or dried peas work well, and seem to be the favoured fillings for rifle bag/rests.
