Old diana
« on: May 10, 2015, 04:11:04 PM »
Just finished this for a friend at work. It's taken me a few weeks on and off as I got a few spare minutes it was a rusty wreck that had been left in his shed for years. So plenty of oil and wire wool brought the metalwork upto a not so bad finish and the flaking brown stock has had a full treatment of removing the duct tape that held the action in place. I then striped and sanded back the owl timber and gave it the boiled linseed treatment of five coats then a hot bison wax finish this morning. I ended up making a new breach seal and cleaned the internals out and gave it a re lube then put back together for a test shot or twenty lol with bolts this time and no duct tape  ;D

Great picture.

It looks just the ticket. Really very nice looking job you've made of it Dave. How does it shoot then , would it be ok for a mooching gun.
Yeh I love it, looks- practical.

 What model is it?
I plink , therefore I am.

Thanks Gareth  :)
Nick it's a series 70 model 78 in .22 of course that's why I agreed to undertake the surgery  ;D
It takes a nice squeeze of the trigger to release the lead but it doesn't diesel. It's fairly smooth now but one thing I don't like is the coking arm needs to push against the stock to cock so not the smoothest Cocker around down to the pivoting two piece arm. But for a gun of this age it's fair accurate with the open sights and makes a fun plinking rifle that's now a joy to use. As a mooching gun I'd say no only because there's no scope and I've lost touch with shooting open sights. And if it was mine I'd keep it without a scope just for the fun factor  ;D
