What, no hw80, is it in bits? :)

Yep - the 80 is off at the gun shop having its innards re-arranged which will take a few weeks apparently  :(. And hopefully the last slot will be filled Wednesday. Then I'm done. Unless I can find a nice FWB Sport  ;)

Its just my local gun shop - Emmet & Stone near Marlow. Not a tune up or anything exciting, just a service and replacement of the crusty 40 year old bits. I'm curious to see what sort of a job they do though. I may have them do some work on the Stutzen I have coming next week. Unless anyone knows of someone who specialises in BSAs?

Have to get another rack first! I'd love a Theoben Sirocco and a FWB Sport, though that might end up in divorce!

get another rack

Drat......You beat me to it!!!

I always hankered after a Scirocco too, as they were the ultimate tool of choice back when I was young, and all the top shooters/scribes from Airgun World magazine had them.

I few years later I was loaned one for a week....and what a disappointment it was. Harsh to shoot, VERY VERY kicky, with a nasty heavy trigger action. For some reason, I stopped wanting one after that! ::)

Really? That's interesting. I've never used one but I had thought the whole gas ram thing was supposed to be smoother.

Newer, more modern Theoben 'rammers' (ones called H.E.) are much better, but the early models were shockingly nasty.

In theory they should be smoother, but in reality, they were just Harsh, in BOLD, underlined, and with with a capital H.

Not owned a gas ram myself so I'm reading this post with interest.

I think it could be the next purchase. I have to admit to being totally ignorant about them though. The tips on Theobens are very helpful. Wondering too about the HW90. Any opinions on that?

If I was you I wouldn't bother, though you need to try one for the experience. They can be very accurate & my Sirocco in .22 is one example but I don't like how they shoot & cock.

Some love them but I couldn't have one as my only rifle. The 90 is fairly good but has the ugly trigger, the TB is nice & the custom nicer still but they hold the money pretty well.

On the ones you fancy I would go for a FWB 127

I shot a '90,hated it,they are known for killing scopes too
Just noticed the pic of the gun rack,I'd move the rifles to the right so the stock is supported by the rack, they'll be better balanced and more secure

Wondering too about the HW90. Any opinions on that?

As you probably already know, the HW90 is a Weihrauch that has been licenced to use the Theoben gas ram system........but sadly it's instead of being the best of both worlds, it's the worst of both.

The way the Theoben system works doesn't lend itself to the brilliant Rekord trigger unit, so an Elite trigger is utilised instead....and it can't hold a candle to the Rekord.

A great many 90's get converted to spring power, and the fact that V-Mach do a kit just for that purpose, speaks volumes.

If you are hell bent on getting a Theoben rammer, the only type I'd (loosely) recommend is one with the H.E. (High Efficiency) system......but I certainly wouldn't recommend going 'halfway house' by getting a rifle (HW90) which isn't a full and proper Theoben, and isn't a full and proper Weihrauch either. :-\

Thanks for the advice. Perhaps I'll change my mind and hunt down a nice FWB sport instead :)

You won't go far wrong with a fwb sport mate i didn't shoot mine when I got it because it had been in the back of a cupboard for almost 20 years. I stripped it to find perished seals and dry as a bone. After I cleaned it all out I got it reblued then bought the vmach kit from lyn lewington through Gambo  ;) it's a joy to shoot now

Rab, A 127 in 12Flb Land is what I would use instead of a PCP. I have a 127 with a Bad Boy Spring & a Parachute piston Seal for a Very nice FAC Springer, My FWB 124 FAC to fast for Squirrel's> Sorry  but a FAC .177 Pisses through Gray's and They run away to Suffer and Die a hard death in the Cold and wet Swamp.SO You can't go wrong w/a 127FWB .22.....Franky
