Title: Obsolete .22 Pellets
Post by: Gambo on December 21, 2011, 06:39:23 PM
I'm looking for any old or obsolete .22 pellets, to feed my 'pellet porn' addiction.

Any pellets that are not already in my collection will be considered, but I am especially interested in pellets from the 70's and 80's.

So, let me know what You have lurking away in the back of that draw or cupboard please, Ta.

I know this is an old thread but I found it whilst I was trying to find out the weight of some .22 jackles. I've got tub with 80 odd left in it if anyone's interested. It's the .177 pack (same as the pic in this thread but green not red) and as I remember it had stickers over the .177 & the 750 quantity, saying .22 & 500, no idea why but that's how I bought them back in 1985 ish. I can email a pic but or post one if anyone knows how to do that from an iPad.

cheers ;0)

Hiya Dazza, and welcome to our Planet. ;)

That's a very kind gesture you've made, so have some applaud points for doing so. ;)

I'd have jumped at the chance if they were in .22, as I haven't got any Jackels.......but maybe a .177 pellet collector will take you up on your offer.

Hi Gambo, thanks for the warm welcome and the points  :)

The pellets are .22 but in the .177 tub, I guess they ran out  the .22 tubs and just re labeled the .177 ones. Who knows?

Not sure if I made that clear now I've read my first post back. Let met me know if that makes any difference to you. Failing that I might stick them on eBay.

In with the tube were 2x Sussex Armory ,Nickerson in plastic ,Champion Challenger & CZ Diabolo Sports. Not bad

If you weren't already aware, Sussex Armoury was the company that went on to become Air Arms.

They didn't make pellets themselves, but simply had other manufacturers pellets made with their own labels on the tins/tubes etc.

Depending on what model/type of Sussex pellets you purchased, it was a lottery as to whether they were decent quality, or crap. :(

From what I remember as a kid, they weren't widely available, well, not around these parts of the woods anyway.

Were they widely available in your areas back in the day? ???

No don't remember them round our way,i used to travel to M.A.G to get a lot of mine. Our locals had mainly Eley Wasp,Milbro,Marksman some RWS & a  few H&N.
Had some cheap Gamo flatheads in a cream tin from Gunsport of Rotherham that were good for close range, better than todays versions.

Geez, that's a good selection.

The local hardware shop only sold boxes of 200 Marksman, or tins of 500 Caledonians, for those who had more pocket money to spend!!

The very occasional trip into Arthur Bales and Sons in Cardiff town centre, or Angler's Supplies on Penarth Rd, would then give the opportunity to buy quality pellets, in the form of Eley, H&N and RWS offerings. Those trips were few and far between though, so when these kinds of pellets were bought, they were saved for 'best', rather than just being plinked away.

I remember having kittens when the Sussex Sabo were first advertised in AGW, and then wet myself when I eventually bought a tin, from Anger's Supplies. :)
