Title: Defiant Airgun Pellets
Post by: Gambo on December 25, 2011, 09:00:44 PM
I have been trialling these pellets recently, and I have to say, I am impressed with both their manufacturing quality, and their accuracy.

As most people know, finding a pellet which is suitable in one gun, may not be so suitable in another gun, even one of the same make and model, so please bear that in mind when reading this review.

Manufacturing Quality
These pellets (well more like air bullets really), are REALLY well made. Each is visually identical to the next one, with well formed heads, sides, and skirts. The only criticism is a tiny bit of lead flashing around/under the head driving band on some pellets.

The .22 pellets I have been testing come in three head sizes Small (5.48mm), Medium (5.50mm), and Large (5.52mm) to enable you to find the optimum size for your particular barrel.

A sample pack containing 150 of each size is available for test purposes.

Once You have found which head size is best in your gun, then boxes of each size are available.

I took a random sample of 10 of each size, and weighed them on electronic scales for precision accuracy.

My findings were as follows:

10x Small head size gave a total weight of 139.77 grns = 13.97 grns each.
10x Medium head size gave a total weight of 139.77 grns = 13.97 grns each.
10x Large head size gave a total weight of 140.55 grns = 14.05 grns each.

So consistency of weight is near perfect, so top marks there.

The manufacturers claim is of 14 grns.

Accuracy
In the two guns I recently trialled them in (both Brocock Hunters), one gave the best accuracy with the Medium size, the other Brocock preferred the Large size.

Accuracy was phenomenal, giving equal grouping to the other favourite pellet of these guns, Air Arms Field 5.52.

At 40 yards rested, both guns were printing a small fingernail sized, single hole group. I have not yet had the chance to test accuracy out at longer ranges (60 yards), but I am confident that the Defiants will produce the goods there too.

Summary
These pellets are well worth trying, as they are one of the HIGHEST quality pellets available today.

As they are of a medium weight (14 grns), they are suitable for both PCP and springers.

As they are 2 grns lighter than the JSB variants, they may will give you a faster, flatter trajectory than what you are using currently.

They are different from Most Air Gun Pellets

As Bullet Shaped - Lead Version of the Tin Dynamic

They Do need a Clean and Dry Action and Barrel

They are Stamped out on Single Die machines from Quality Lead Wire

Factory has Stopped Trial Packs - But I still offer them

Check web site and onto Forum Board   -  www.defiantpellets.com

Are made in UK - Under Archawy Road - London N6

this has got me thinking now. as i thought nothing had changed with my set-up but then i remembered i removed the shroud on my R10 about the same time as it went off the defiants. so could have been down to barrel harmonics or the void the pellet goes through in the shroud before it enters the moderator. who knows ? .

Only through re-testing will answer that Geezer.

Did the drop off in accuracy coincide with a change of pellet batch?

Never seen these before, but they look a bit like the thunderbolts (i mean in shape) I listened to all the hype about the thunderbolts and as soon as they came out in PC form i went and got some. Have to say I dont like them and didnt see any difference in speed etc.

So I take it these are lead? do they come in .177 in 7.9 or 8.4?

Title: Defiants - Bullet Shaped Pellets
Post by: clubshot on March 01, 2012, 02:14:30 PM
Defiants are Variants of the Exterminators

Which are made out of Tin -

Which for some was to Light - resulting in longer pellets

Bullet Design - is far better than Wasted - Fly's straighter and faster and uses less Puff

Does need to find Rifling - so works far Better when there is a dry Clean Action and Barrel

Also Not a issue with Batches - As made on Single Die Machines

Dies last many Millions in production

Different Set's for different Head Sizes

Are made from Qualilty Lead Wire - on a machines that pre measures Slug before Stamping

Reason not copied as Pax Patented Design   ;) -   World Wide  -

Possibly a silly question guys, but has anyone tried the larger pellets as a replacement for Eley Wasps?

My .22 Tempest is tempted...

I use the larger head sizes of H&H FT Trophy as a 'plan B' for 5.6 Eley Wasps, John.

I have to say I've never tried the Defiants though, so they may be even better.

I've added them to my up and coming .177 tests as I'm getting low on my favoured pellet and will report my findings once all the deliveries are here

Got Defiants in .177 and .22 Cal, 3 head sizes in each (trial packs)

I try them in all recently acquired rifles and although good, there was only one gun where they came out top ! Think it was a HW 97KT in .177 however as it was so close to JSB's which I use frequently in most guns, I stuck to those.
A bit unfair really but I didnt fancy buying more Defiants.
Oh, there was one gun that absolutly hated them, a Theo, SLR 98 in .177. the mag/underlever mechanism literally "chewed 'em up" !
Nowt wrong with the gun, it performed brilliantly with other pellets !

Pellets Prometheus Defiants, gun Daystate X2 .177.

I was aiming at the decimal point in front of the 72p!
