Title: The Uncle Barry Memorial Cup
Post by: Gambo on September 10, 2012, 04:59:07 PM
I am very proud to be able to tell you all, that on Friday, I was entrusted with a very impressive trophy by Barry's family, called 'The Uncle Barry Memorial Cup'.

Presented to me by Barry's brother Steve, it will be a perpetual trophy, to be shot for every year, on the same land where Uncle Barry used to hold his 'meet-ups'.

The exact dates for when, and in what format, the competition is to be held, have yet to be decided, but I can reveal that John the farmer, has very kindly given his permission for meet-ups to be continued to be held on his land.

Both Lloyd and Nic (fullbandit and Knuckle) have very kindly offered to help with the logistics of it all at their end, so many thanks to them both.

I'm sure you'll agree, the trophy and the idea behind it is a very fitting tribute to a man who loved his shooting, and did all he could to promote the sport of airgunning.........something which he will now still continue to do, even in his absence.

Just to imply some scale to the sheer size and magnificence of the trophy, I have placed a .22 pellet in the forground.

It is hoped that as many of you as possible will be eager to compete for the honour of holding this trophy aloft, not only for your own pride, but for the memory of Barry Hutchins too.

When the time is right, I'll move this thread into the appropriate section, and inform you all about any details that have been decided, but for now, this thread can stay in Open Discussion, along with the other threads remembering Uncle Barry.

It was indeed very warming to hear of Steve's idea of a Memorial Cup for Barry.
It's so fitting to remember him in this way and will hopefully make for some great events; Just what he would have wanted.

Ohhh that is soooooo true :)

Great idea and thanks t the family. Although as I'm not allowed to own an airgun above 6ft/lb without it being classed as a firearm and not in .22 where I am now. I will unlikely ever hold up that cup. BUT to be honest, I was most unlikely to hold it up compared to some of you guys anyway lol

Still nice thought, let me know of the dates and who know, maybe, just maybe, it will coincide with a visit. :)

Don't forget the next chance you'll have to win this lovely (perpetual) trophy is at the next 'Uncle Barry Memorial Meeting', being held at the end of May (to coincide with Barry's birthday), near Shaftesbury, Dorset.

moving house, March we took the keys and it took me 52days solid to move, since then and now converting the land for horses, building paddocks, menage, rides, gallops, jumps, stables and sat for hours on a tractor etc but I will get a 200metre range out of it that has just been signed of by the ole bill

Nice that sounds great Kim, you'll need to get some pics up when you get a chance please.

200m home range, that sounds alright that does!

Did you have to jump through many hoops to get it signed off, what did they insist on as a backstop and what calibre is it cleared up to Kim?

I imagine a huge mound of compacted dirt is probably the easiest but would you need to periodically dismantle it and decontaminate the soil?
