The 97 is a cracking rifle..........obviously much better in .22 calibre!! ;) :)

Its still a good rifle the 97 & the 77 which it is derived from.
 As Gambo says its blindingly accurate in .22 especially the early 25mm piston model which was launched in March 1994. :)

Do we know by serial number or other telltale sign to check if it's a 25mm or 26mm piston-anyone? Mick :).

Sounds obvious, but the O/D diameter of the cylinder is bigger on the 26mm model .

Exactly what the size is, I don't know (but I'd guesstimate about 2mm bigger), but you would be able to tell one from t'other if you held the two side by side.

Pretty sure the 25mm sealed 77 is skinnier than the 26mm ones. :-\

I wouldn't bet my life on it though.  ???

I'd have thought so aswell,it makes sense,but people do swap one set up for another in the same rifle.
 An looking at threads on other/lesser ;D forums,different people quote different serial numbers.
