im calling this an accessory
« on: November 27, 2017, 01:08:10 PM »
i have finally managed to save enough to get a Schmidt Rubin 7.5 x 55 Swiss, after a week on the net i managed to find out info on this gun regarding its age, through the serial number i did it, it also told me that its a 1896/11 that was made in 1900 :o, when i first looked at it in the strong room of a gun shop it was in immaculate condition (with the exception of age related nicks and dings)
the second tome i looked at it  was a few mounts later

it had white mould on the stock (most of it i wiped off before i took the pic
after getting it home on Saturday it was striped and cleaned (with the exception of the bore, thanks to a 6 bore scope we could see that apart from a tiny bit of copper fouling, the rifling was clean and crisp) its amazing what very fine wire wool and oil can do for real bluing ;D

the stock was taken off and wiped over inside and out with mentholated spirits (which would have gone a long way to kill the mould) this was to take off 100 years of muck without loosing the aged look of the wood, the inside of the stock was sprayed with mould killer, next day the stock had a good coat of a wax furniture polish paste, then a few coats of a lavender wood polish paste (don't laugh, when i got my .22 lr cz, in the shop it was fine, when i got it home i could smell stale fag smoke and it was that bad it was making me gip :( :( i was told to wipe the stock over with meths a few times then to use a wax based fragranced paste polish to build up the finish and smear it on the inside of the stock as well)

now i have to save up for some bullets and loading gear :( :'(

Lovely!! ;) It certainly doesn't look 117 years old.

What scope are you gonna fit on it Uggs? ;D

Curious about the different wood at the bottom of the pistol grip....is it supposed to be like that, or has it been repaired? ???

You didn't say what you paid for it........are you going to tell us, or is it a secret? ;D
