I am looking for a scope with short range clear focus around 10-15 ft perhaps 20 ft at most as its for ratting and suitable for night shooting in a compact unit which will also fair well with IR unit .

I'd suggest a Hawke Airmax 2-7x32AO.......has all the features you're requiring (and more), all for about 35. ;)

Cracking 'lil scope. :)

sounds like a bargain for a Hawke as well , will have a gander now .

No, that's not the one I was thinking of.

I have a Hawke Vantage 2-7x32AO on my SMK 208 and a cracking little scope it is too. But, when using NV you,ll find that in my experience, nothing focuses down to twenty feet. I could be wrong because i,ve never tried NV on that scope but I could try it out with my Nite Site NS50 tonight just to give you an idea of what it,s like. When using NV the idea is to wind the mag down as low as possible then you focus using the parallax ring. In my experience ,10 yards seems to be the minimum distance to get a reasonably clear picture. For instance, I took two rats last night at under ten yards. The reason I knew the rough distance was because the sight picture was blurred. Got em both, just aimed high  :)

Well, I was wrong. I,ve just tried the Nite Site on the little Hawke and, if you wind down the mag and parallax, you can see quite clearly below twenty feet .

As I don't use NV....the following may not be valid......

Depending upon the setting the ocular lens needs to be adjusted to for the individual's eyes, those Airmax 2-7x32AO scopes will focus down to around 10-12ft when on it's lowest magnification. Whether the use of NV would negate or alter that trait, I don't know. ???

The closest focusing scope I have is a Japanese made Apollo 5***** 4x32AO.....that thing focus down to naff all. Sadly, they are no longer made, but second hand ones do occasionally come up for sale. If you see one, snap it up!!!! ;)

Edit...whilst typing this reply Mel has already posted and answered my above comment regarding the focusing the Hawke when using NV. 8)
