Old gun re-built
« on: July 01, 2017, 10:50:32 AM »
As some you know, i,ve de commissioned my old "Raptor " due to the mags being worn out. So rather than scrap the rifle I decided to re design it. I made a new breechblock and made one of my hand indexed magazines. I went with a carbon fibre shroud, just to be different. At the moment it has a barrel that I know to be sub standard but i,m fishing around for something suitable , a smoothtwist perhaps.
Well here she is, running at 11 fpe.

Tidy job Mel. I don't mind the anodized parts for a target rifle. Did you anodize them yourself?

No, a friend does anodizing. He charged me 35 but i,n not that happy with it. The knurled parts haven,t taken the dye very well. Never mind, it,s only my rifle after all . The barrel i,m using is a Weihrauch item I had given to me. Someone has choked it but it is slightly too tight. But that will get changed at a later date. I now have to somehow turn the shroud into a silencer as it,s not that quiet. Oh well it keeps me busy I suppose.

I recall Edgar Bros selling Lothar Walther barrels machined for the AT44 a few years ago for only 45 (they were doing upgraded Quattro trigger units for the same price).

Mel, if you're looking for a LW barrel to replace the overchoked Weihrach tube, it may be worth giving them a call to see if they're still available. ;)

The Weihrauch barrel is just a little bit too tight. I can,t remember if i,ve tried polishing it out, I usually use a lead slug, melted into the end of the barrel then fixed to a cleaning rod. I,m not too worried as I might be getting a hand selected Walther barrel from Dave Welham. Also, my mate who did the anodizing has an account with ASI and is going to try and get a smoothtwist for me. I,m not in any hurry, after all i,ve eight other rifles I can use. I,m taking the cheapo Chink rifle out this evening to try and get a pigeon for Whitey. I,m amazed how accurate and quiet that thing is.
