Hi IceBlerk.

You could just use some resistors to choke down the 12v supply you already have. The cost pence and will save space.

Nic.
this is shameful, i did electronics as part of my HGV training but i have forgotten how to use resisters  :(

Yeah. That will be fine.

Thanks for the reassurance, Nic.

I think I'll invest and see if I can find a mate at work who'll solder some connectors onto the wires for me.

When I've got it up and running I'll put build details and a sample maybe a vid up here.

it was whitwood college (now a housing estate in castleford) there the basics was taught as part of the electrical systems of heavy plant equipment, the fine points were part of the lgv coarse i did at armthorp GTA college as part of the vehicle electrical systems (but it was all so long ago that i could have been a figment of my memory)

I attended whitwood on day release when I was an apprentice  fitter. The best thing about that place was on lunch break nipping up to the mainbuilding for a haircut and fiddling with  ;) :D , by the girls doing their hairdressing training. The happiest days. :) :)

we were actually banned from the main building (except for the canteen) because of 1, the oily foot prints we left everywhere we walked, 2, the genteel girls (and staff) objected to us 'ruffians' been around with our foul language, 3, there were girls in the beauty section were running around 1/2 naked, some times not even that :o

we had some lessons in wooden huts near the canteen, one day mr Tinker was telling us some thing, when he got no reply he asked us what we were looking at through the window, when he clocked what we were looking at he started drooling, there was a girl from the beauty section in her little white beauticians dress standing in front of some steps that lead down to lower part of the site, the sun was directly behind her, as it turns out those beauticians dresses, with a strong light behind them are transparent!! 8)

if you use google earth you can go back to 2002, the wooden buildings were gone by then, find the main college building, to the right there is 3 grass fields, the top one has a small building, we were in a wood hut just in front of that, to the left was the canteen and just below left was the stares.

we were based in the building in the center of the grounds along with the building in front of it

......... armthorp GTA college ..........

There's a college for studying Grand Theft Auto? Cool!

I had my fingers crossed there; I was REALLY hoping you were going to say you could see the girl in the transparent dress!!!!

Well, its been a long time coming but I now have recording capability on my NV rig.

I bought one of these: ProDVR device.

But it was dead on arrival.

So it was replaced.

The replacement smoked (literally) as soon as power was supplied to it.

So I got a refund and got one of these instead : Mini DVR.

It is bigger than the original device I was looking at but it works off 12v so it didn't need any faffing to get it powered up.

A mate of mine gave me some circuit board and I've taken the feed from the battery through the board to individual feeds to the camera, screen and DVR.

So now the inside of the box is a little cramped but it still screws shut.

And here's a link to my first video : Video in normal light.

This is a video showing the first rat I've caught on video : First rat. The distance was about 18 yards.

This video shows a rabbit at about 20 yards in low light (i.e. the camera is doing the work, no IR) : Wabbit.

And here's a video showing the change in display when the IR is switched off in darkness : IR on-off-on.

I hope this is of benefit to fellow Planeteers. If you have any questions feel free to ask...............
