22 Hobbies -
« on: April 24, 2017, 09:38:43 PM »
 I'm sloughened. :(

Quite a while ago I bought a tin of hobbies to test , they were so good I bought a further 2 cartons of same batch. In both 95 and recently in 77 they would shoot like best quality domed pellets at 25 yards , extremely consistent in to the breach , on the scales and through the chroney . Exceptionally excellent batch of cheap pellets. Anyway they've all gone :(.

The new carton opened this evening as it the other end of the spectrum , absolute wank >:(.  Shot quite a few through 77 and the groups are twice + the size , I thought there was summut wrong with rifle at first ,here's a small sample of what was going to be a long shot string through the chroney  but I gave up ,  645 ,637 , 652, 633 ...  here's a reading taken at the weekend with 77 using the last of the good pellets, 640 , 644,644,640 , 645.

I've just weighed a few of the new ones  out of half a dozen they go from 11.6 to 12.3  >:(  .

 Whinge over.
I plink , therefore I am.

As sad as it is...........it happens.

Been in the same situation many times.........JSB seem to be the worst for it, or maybe it only seems that way coz that's the brand I most often buy.

Whatever........though I don't recall the likes of the old IMI produced Eley Wasps being inconsistent.......every tin was superb. Sod 'progress', sometimes the old stuff is the best!! ::)

Same here mucker ,i spend a small fortune on jsb made pellets .The 177 tx aaf express 7.9,HW98 fap 7.3  and ultra aaf 8.4.

It's only the last couple of years that I've started using rws for 22 garden boinger plinking ,I thought i was on to a good thing with the hobbies . I now believe that batch was the exception and not the norm , as I've never previously had a brilliant results with them ,ever in any rifle. As good as they were they were only fit for 25-30 yards, anything over and it back to relying on faps 13.4 or aaf16.

Even though JSB is my main ammo fodder, I can't recall ever having a substandard tin of RWS pellets.

Like you say, I have only ever use Hobbies out to 30 yards at the very max (usually much less), but push Superdomes further than that with great results. I would personally say Superdomes are the cream of the RWS range, and don't recall ever finding a springer that doesn't like them, so I'm surprised you say that about them.

However, I don't think RWS can match the likes of JSB, Accupels and Field Target Trophy for long range work.

I've not really tried proper longer ranges with superdomes as they drop like stones , but at the ranges I shoot at , they're as good as is needed.
