BSA Airsporter S
« on: March 20, 2017, 12:46:42 PM »
Having recently re-discovered the sport, I am planning to collect all the guns I had/wanted as a kid. First on my list is a BSA Airsporter S - a gun I had back in the 80s. They seem thin on the ground, but I have come across a couple online. However, although they are advertised as BSA Airsporter (not Airsporter S) they look to me like the S model. My recollection is that the Airsporter had a beech stock and no chequering, whilst the S had a walnut stock and checkering on the pistol grip and forestock. Before I buy the wrong gun, am I right on that (discounting the fact that someone could have stained their Airsporter and added some chequering of course).
Daystate Hunstman Regal. Stage 2 Vmach HW80 and  HW35. Currently trying my best not to knob up a refurbishment attempt on an HW77K.

You are correct Richard, the Airsporter S had a chequered walnut stock, whilst the standard model had a plain unchequered beech stock.

Other differences IIRC were the S had scallops where the barrel joined the cylinder (just ahead of the loading tap), but the standard model didn't have them. Also, again IIRC, the S had a two stage trigger, where the basic model was single stage. I'm not absolutely sure if that was the case for early S models, but I'm pretty sure the later models were two stage.

Anyone care to clarify those points?

I bought one a few years ago, I think there was a mk1 and a mk2, Not sure which mine is though!

Very bland bit of walnut!  :-\

The first gun on the left..

It needs some work as the power was down when my mate tried it through his chrono  :(

It is

I had two, An XL but let a relative have that one  ;) The lad I got them both from used stained oil to darken them, I've been going to remove it since I got them both but never could be bothered!!

It looks as though there's some nice grain below the dark stuff too  :(

They both came with Bushnell 4-12x40 scopes but the mounts were no good for the Maxi rail as I could get no closer than 5" at 20 yards as they were for 11mm rails rather than the Maxi rail 14mm  :o

I found a set of Austrailian windage adjustable mounts cheap and they're spot on!!

And with the XL when I had it..
