Have an oldie coming on Wednesday!!
« on: December 05, 2016, 07:55:08 PM »
Hi all

I sent payment last week for this old luvely!!

The seller was being told it was a pre war BSA Break barrel rifle when clearly it isn't!! The trigger block is flat sided whereas the Beesa product is round!!

I told the chap that it looked very similar on the teigger block to my (MilBro) Diana mod27 but with a different stock!!

I was glancing through my Hillers guide and found a gun with the exact same profile, I may be wrong but I think it's a Midland Gun company 'Demon'!! I've been told that there's a metal bit in the top of the stock that attaches it to the action so if it has this when it arrives, I definitely have quite a rare oldie!!

Pics..

The gun was serviced five years ago with new mainspring and seals, It has a crack on either side off the stock which was stabilised by the gunsmith, According to the gent that sold it, The gun shoots spot on!!

It looks like i'll need to source/make a barrels axis keeper screw as it seems to be missing on the gun..

It could actually be a Diana or some gun from a small company that fell by the wayside, The chap said there was nothing to ID the gun  :-\

Can't wait 'til wednesday now!!  :P :o

Lovely bit of timber on it john  ;D

It looks nicely figured but upon digging further, The pressed in chequering looks different on the Midland guns so I reckon this is going to take some identifying  :o

Hi Gambo

It's .22cal, It came this morning! I've no idea what gun it is!!

I took some pics of it but they're not very good!

And then there's this!!

Ox spring slopped in grease!!

The Ox spring may have been shortened to the correct length as it's not overly difficult to cock but there's so much grease in there that the OPEC members are rubbing their hands knowing i'm going to create an oil shortage so they can up their price per barrel!! ::)

It's dieselling like the bejaysus and smoke is escaping through the breech! It looked like Moby Dick was exhaling after being at the bottom of the Mariana trench for the last half hour!

I need to strip it and wash all the grease off then relube a little more sparingly!!  ;)

The seller replied with this when I let him know it had arrived safely..

"Delighted to hear it, it was my father's / grandfather's and I think has been in the family since new, but I've got no particular attachment to it and definitely don't have sufficient room in my cabinet for it with other toys in there. As I was packing I noticed how nice that little rear sight is. It was resprung by Test Valley Sporting Guns in Overton about 5 years ago, he put in a top of the range spring and a fresh seal, which I think is plastic (to replace the perished leather seal that was in there). Happy shooting!"

I wonder what type of plastic seal was fitted- He's right about the rearsight! It's a little work of art!!  ;)

It sounds like i'm being negative about the gun but it only needs stripping and a bit pf the grease removing then it'll be smashing!! I love the lines of it  8)

Cheers, John  :)

Its a lovely shaped rifle john. Does it feel solid or rickety? It will be lighter when you degrease it too  ;D

It actually feels really sold and well made!! I think with a proper breech seal it will be as near as dammit to full power!!  8) 8)

I had a Mod 27 which felt nowhere near as solid as this for some reason!  :(

I think i'll strip it at the weekend, There may be a huge oil slick headed down the waste treatment plant thopugh!! :D :D

X2 please.

It would be really interesting to find out what piston seal has been used.

Yep, I noticed the rearsight (with the distances marked on it) in the earlier pics you posted, but didn't comment on it as I thought everyone would think I was being a bit 'anal'........ahem! :-\
