Ah! "Mod" = "Silencer". Understood. I've learnt something already!

And if the Maxus is the Terrus with a mod (see? I'm getting into the vernacular already) is the Maxus with supplied 3x9x40 scope (href='http://www.sportsguns.co.uk/air-rifles-uk/springers/wded/walthermittres) worth the money? Or is a Terrus + scope a better idea?

Now, I've heard "LGU" and "LGV" bandied about a fair bit. But what do they mean? Are they brands of guns or types of guns? (I began by assuming they were types of van.)

@Barry - You're practically salivating at the mere mention of LGU. Why?

Mmmm, LGU.

The Walther LGU was what I decided I wanted when I started back into airguns.   I don't want to turn this into an advertisement for Walther, but I researched this purchase quite a bit, and found reviews were overwhelmingly favorable.  The few negatives were so insignificant it became almost comical, and frankly, it sounded too good to be true.

It turned out to be just as they had said, and I don't know what I would change or would've done different if doing it again.  I don't usually get to say that.

The link did not work for me,but i have seen the Maxus at 250.00 so with a scope & mod its not bad for a full kit.

This is a Walther by name though more like a Umarex rifle by this i mean its not the same action & trigger as the LGV or LGU ( the LGU is the under lever model).

I'm struggling to think of a joke combining 'rifle' and 'commando'.

Gimme a week and I'll get back on that.

Wahey! Another opportunity to show my ignorance!

What does  'under kever' mean?

An underlever rifle is cocked by a lever under it.  The lever may be visible under the barrel as on a Walther LGU (Luft Gewehr Unterlever), or hidden within the forend of the stock as on a BSA Airsporter.

The lever cocks the piston and spring like the barrel would do in a "break-barrel" or "barrel cocking" rifle.

The underlever system allows a fixed barrel, which may or may not aid accuracy depending on who you ask.

Then you get into different pellet loading systems, since an underlever may or may not expose the barrel breech.  We'll save that for later.
