Hello!
« on: September 19, 2016, 08:25:51 AM »
Hello, everyone!

A little about myself:

I'm based near Sheffield in the UK.

I've yet to buy my first gun (no doubt I'll be asking for advice on the subject).

I'm on the forum to learn more about the sport.

My eyes are blue.

I don't support a football team.

If anyone wishes to ask me a question about myself, feel free. If I decide to answer it you'll have to decide if it was truthfully.

Good Morning Mr Blerk, and welcome to The Planet. ;)

A question ehhh...............now let me see ::) .........

Ok, secretly, deep down, do you really really wish you were WELSH, rather than hailing from *orkshire? ???

When you do get your air rifle, are you planning on it being a girly .177, or a manly .22?

atb, Gareth. ;) ;D ;D

Gareth.

Good morning to you too.

Ah ha! The old "Welsh Dilemma". It's a puzzle that's confounded mankind for many years and will continue for many more, I'm sure.

But, I'm actually from the North East (hence the pitmatic "Blerk"), more Northerer than Yorkshire and, as everyone knows, there's no better blood to have in your veins (even though an embarrassing contingent on "Geordie Shore" seems to want to dilute it with ridiculous quantities of alcohol).

Originally I was planning to be manly. I was looking at a springer (more manly than PCP) and thought the .22 Walther Maxus might be a good entry level gun.

For the last week or so, however, I've been indulging my girly side and have considered the .177 version. I keep hearing that .177 will pack enough punch to remove a rabbit.

But I hear what you're saying. How could I hold my head up as a complete novice without having a weapon that says "I'm taking this seriously and will learn the craft"? I tried a bloke's 1,500 PCP .177 gun at a nearby range the other day. It was like shooting sniper rounds in "Call of Duty". Not enough challenge straight out of the box for me. No recoil. A trajectory that you could draw with a spirit level. Reloading that I could do with my little finger (and that WOULD be girly).

So, I think I may be coming back round to .22 again.

Or maybe not.

Welcome, from a new guy also having blue eyes.

I do support the Georgia Bulldogs college football team.  That's probably not the football you meant, however.

Barry, we (the English) invented football so we got to name it, we called it football not soccer! ::) you play a girls version of rugby with all the Dallas (tv series) shoulder pads, that girls version of rugby is called american football :P

Iceblerk, if a .177 rifle is not enough challenge then try pistol shooting, I was putting pellet after pellet through the same hole at 70 m with my falcon fn19 and it's successor the falcon prairie, i got bored and tried a target pistol, after 10 years its still a challenge, I still have both falcons and have a falcon fn 8 pistol (that's how much I like falcon, the fn series is the best!)

The Maxus is a Terrus with mod.

Its a reasonable good rifle as a starter but i prefer the LGV or LGU range though these are heavier.

A manly HW80 would fit the bill. :)

@landymick

What's the nature of the Maxus mod? That's a term I'm not familiar with.

I've checked out the HW80 but I think it may be a bit pricey for my first investment.

The Maxus is fitted with a moderator on the muzzle (silencer) to help calm the sound of the muzzle crack.

The Terrus comes with open sights & synthetic stock at around 200.00
